The Difference between Ivory Paper and Art Paper

Ivory paper and art paper are the two most used paper types in the printing industry. Ivory paper, also known as White Cardboard, has high stiffness and is suitable for single-sided printing; while art paper is smoother than the surface coating and is suitable for double-sided printing.

So, what are the specific differences between these two papers?

First of all, let's get to know Ivory paper. Ivory paper is a kind of thick paper that is strong, thick and quantitative. In fact, it is a kind of jam. The most common cardboard is not colored, and it is customary to call it white cardboard. If it is colored, it is called color cardboard according to the color.

The main use of white cardboard is to print business cards, pharmaceutical packaging, tags, cartons, desk calendars and postal postcards.

The surname of white cardboard is "white", so it has high requirements for whiteness. The whiteness of A grade is not less than 92%, B grade is not lower than 87%, and C grade is not lower than 82%. When the whiteness exceeds 90%, it is a bit "bright and dazzling".

White cardboard also requires higher stiffness, burst resistance and smoothness (except for white cardboard with embossed patterns), the paper surface is flat, no streaks, spots and other paper defects are allowed, and no warpage is allowed deformation occurs.

Next, let's get to know the coated paper. Coated paper is divided into double-sided coated paper and single-sided coated paper. The weight of double-sided coated paper ranges from 80 grams to 400 grams, while that of single-sided coated paper ranges from 170 grams to 400 grams. If it is called coated paper directly, it usually refers to double-sided coated paper.

Double-coated paper is divided into single-sided and double-sided art coated paper. According to the classification standard of Japan Paper Industry, the coating amount of each side is about 10g/m2 or more. It is currently one of the most commonly used paper type in cultural publishing, advertising design, printing and binding, and industrial and commercial circles.

Single copper paper has a bright surface, uniform coating, fast ink absorption and good printability, suitable for delicate color printing. For the purpose of exquisite printing, the surface of the base paper is coated with paint, and then calendered to ordinary coated paper by a super calender.

It can be seen that the surfaces of white cardboard and coated paper are very different. Put them together and you can see the difference with the naked eye. White cardboard is strong and thick, with high burst resistance, and is mostly used for packaging, cards and other products. Coated paper is bright and smooth, absorbs ink quickly, and has bright colors. It is mostly used for book illustrations and paper box surfaces.
