Photo Paper Introduction

1. What is photo paper?

Photographic paper, also known as photo paper, sun drying paper, or photosensitive paper, refers to a special type of paper coated with chemical photosensitive materials for printing photos. The paper used to print digital cameras does not contain chemical photosensitive materials and becomes printing paper. At present, photo paper is widely used in professional image output fields such as wedding photography and children's photography in the market; There are also various popular fields such as advertising materials, menus, business cards, resumes, and home office use.

2. Classification of photo paper

1) Silver salt printing photo paper

Silver salt printing paper is a traditional type of paper that has a certain wet strength, acid and alkali resistance, high stiffness, and folding resistance. The paper is coated with photosensitive lotion, and its image can be kept for a long time after being exposed to light and exposed to chemicals. By changing the ratio of silver halide and gelatin in the photosensitive emulsion, controlling the curing conditions, and adding sensitizing pigments, printing paper with different sensitivities can be obtained.

2) Inkjet printing paper

Inkjet printing paper is the receptor for ink ejected from the nozzle of an inkjet printer, on which images or text are recorded. Its basic characteristics are fast ink absorption speed and non diffusion of ink droplets.

3) Printing photo paper

Printing paper is the substrate for digital printing, and its surface has good affinity with electronic ink, which can firmly fix the electronic ink on the surface of the substrate. In addition, printing paper has good waterproof and anti adhesion properties, and the printed image has sufficient reflection density.

3. Photo paper construction

Photographic paper is divided into 4-5 layers:

1) The foundation of paper base is a fiber paper base that meets a quality standard. The base of photographic paper must be white in color, uniform in texture, and not easily deformed. Paper substrates have different thickness standards.

2) Barium oxide layer. A thin layer of barium oxide is added to the photo paper substrate to fill small defects and increase the whiteness of the photo paper.

3) A polyethylene resin layer is added on top of the barium oxide layer to prevent chemical liquids from entering the paper substrate during photo paper processing. Paper without a polyethylene resin layer is called paper-based paper, while paper with a polyethylene resin layer is called coated paper.

4) Photographic emulsion layer.

5) Protective layer on the surface of photographic paper

5. Distinguish

1) Pull out the paper from the packaging bag, lay it flat on the table, wait for half an hour, and check if both sides of the paper are curled up or down If there is severe warping, it indicates that the paper is not qualified.

2) Visually inspect the surface for scratches, punctures, or black spots.

3) Check the smoothness and flatness of the surface. Good photo paper feels smooth on the surface. And it has a plastic texture, while poor quality photo paper appears dry. You can dip your fingers in water and touch the coating on the photo paper. If it is smooth, it indicates that the photo paper coating is qualified. If it feels rough or sticky, it indicates that the surface coating quality of the photo paper is poor and the waterproof performance is not very good.

4) Check the whiteness of the paper. There are two types of whiteness in the identification of paper whiteness. One is native white (red), and the other is fluorescent white (blue). Research by foreign experts has shown that blue light has a significant harmful effect on human eyes, and the added fluorescent powder also has carcinogenic effects. So all exported photo papers in China use high-end base paper and coated coatings. Thus presenting a reddish white color. However, low-quality photo paper presents a blue fluorescent white color.

5) To identify the waterproof performance, drop a small amount of water onto the surface of the photo paper and observe whether there is water seeping out in front of the paper after a few minutes.
